'What have you found?' competition winner - August
'Toy Bone'
The winner of our August Veterinary Review competition is Suzanne Baxter, Veterinary Surgeon at the Park Veterinary Group in Cardiff. Readers sent in x-rays of the most unusual object they have found in an animal, and Suzanne's was a clear winner:
Mabel the Mastiff had a liking for scavenging, so when she was presented having been vomiting for 48hrs and inappetant, she was immediately admitted for IV fluids and radiographs. No one was surprised to find a FB on the radiograph, but perhaps such a graphic image was just a little surprising. On questioning her owners they said a 'toy bone' had gone missing... Mabel had an uneventful enterotomy and the 'bone' was removed from just proximal to her ileocaecocolic junction. Mabel was subsequently discharged with the offending object in the obligatory brown paper bag. Mabel and her owners haven't been seen much at our surgery of late - I assume that her embarassed owners now take much more care with both her toys and theirs!

Suzanne has won a Kodak EasyShare V570 digital camera. Details of this month's competition can be found in the News section of our website and the October issue of Veterinary Review.
