The Ark Veterinary Centre in Ewell opened its doors at the end of January this year after an extensive refurbishment of the original premises. This modern, high-spec practice offers rapid diagnosis and effective treatment for clients.

Sinead Armstrong, the practice owner, came to BCF Technology for help in sourcing her diagnostic equipment. She was looking for both digital ultrasound and digital x-ray solutions to provide top quality diagnostic tools for her clients.

BCF recommended a Sonosite Titan ultrasound system which is suitable for extensive applications across a diverse range of animal species. This laptop sized scanner gives the image quality and functionality of a static system, but in a small package. This enables Sinead to diagnose many heart and abdominal problems quickly and effectively. The Titan is also easily expandable, with an extensive range of probes and functions including colour, Doppler and Tissue Harmonic Imaging.

Computed radiology equipment was a key consideration as Sinead did not want to lose valuable space using a dark room to process x-ray film. BCF recommended a Kodak CR500 machine with fully automated processing. This fast tabletop system processes more than 60 (35 x 43 cm) cassettes an hour with a veterinary specific user interface, which is coloured and intuitive for ease of use. X-rays can be reviewed immediately and e-mailed to specialists if a second opinion is needed.

All of the ultrasound scans and x-ray images are stored on a Master Page diagnostic review workstation which is linked to the Titan and the CR500. This gives Sinead the ability to store the animals' images in one secure place. She can then go back and review an animal's file and annotate the images if required.
