A clear view of the future

Stable Close

Stable Close Equine Practice is a 100% horse veterinary practice based in Winchester, covering much of Hampshire. The practice aims to treat patients at their owner's premises as much as possible and it has recently invested in state of the art portable digital x-ray and ultrasound equipment from BCF Technology.

The practice always aims to give the best possible treatment whilst keeping the horse at the owner's premises. Unique to this area, they have been using a mobile x-ray trailer to aid their diagnosis of difficult cases. However, they have watched the development of digital x-ray technology and have now invested in a high definition and extremely portable x-ray system from BCF, which puts them at the forefront of the current technology.

Malcolm Morley, one of the partners in Stable Close Equine Practice said "Using this new technology is a huge leap forward for our veterinary practice. It enables us to obtain extremely detailed images almost instantly without having to travel the horse or pony."
The TruDR digital x-ray system is the most up-to-date and mobile system on the market providing better facilities than many clinics. Gavin Mitchell, Sales Director, from BCF said: "The TruDR system takes digital x-rays which can be viewed only three seconds later. A diagnosis can then be made on-site and additional shots taken for further investigation if required. This enables them to offer fantastic x-rays and a premium service to their clients on the owners' sites; removing the need and stress of horse transport."
The machine is only the size of a small suitcase and yet has the capacity to take high quality x-rays which appear almost instantly on a laptop computer. In addition Stable Close Equine has updated its ultrasound scanner to a high definition Sonosite Micromaxx, enabling them to scan livers, chests, kidneys and eyes, in addition to legs and tendons. The size of horses means that a powerful ultrasound machine is necessary to penetrate deep tissues and only recently has mobile equipment become available that can accomplish this outside hospital facilities.
